The Gift of Time
Time. Time is a gift. This time we’ve been given with our kiddos and families are so fleeting. We’ve discussed this before. Eighteen summers. We hear this and feel a constant pressure to enjoy every second, which can lead to unrealistic expectations on ourselves. But at the same time, we all want to give the gift of time to the ones we love. To sit and be. To enjoy and do. To be right there. Right in that very moment. To see the beautiful gifts we’ve been given in the seemingly small everyday moments without needing to create special, but instead just enjoying the special that is right in front of us.
I always love capturing moments with pictures to help me see the gifts that I have been given. To have a tangible piece of the beauty of that moment. To see the special without having to be distracted by the demands of the now. But that can be tricky, too. Sometimes having that phone handy to take pictures and check the time, can be more of a distraction than anticipated: a text here, an e mail, a phone call, checking on this, and then that. So this summer, while I want to continue to capture moments to highlight the beauty, I also want to take some time to just be. No phone. No camera. To just truly give the gift of quality time without being behind a lens. Without being inadvertently distracted by the apps on my phone.
Time as a Tool
One of the ways I intend to accomplish this is by simply wearing a watch. I was so excited when JORD contacted me about partnering with them to gift a $100 gift card to one of my readers to be used toward one of their watches. I knew this would be one of the tools I could use to keep me on track with my goal. Honestly, I have not worn a watch in years and have relied solely on my cell phone to check the time. But in doing so, I have opened myself up to more distractions from the present moment. Wearing this watch and putting away the cell phone for certain moments, will allow me to be more intentional about my time.
Time is the goal. Presence without pressure is the objective. But an added bonus is the look. It’s gorgeous. These wooden, amazingly crafted watches are statement pieces that command attention.
