Hey, friends!! Remember when we talked fair trade and ethically made fashion a while back? Well, I am continuing to learn and grow in the area of fair trade and ethically made products. And I am so excited to see that this topic is becoming increasingly popular. Mainstream companies are becoming more and more transparent and mindful about their practices. And I am here for it. The more readily accessible and available fair trade products are, the easier it is for us as consumers to choose them.
While this is an area I am growing in, I still have much more to learn and much more work to do. I have not arrived in this area. Not even close. Regardless, small changes are still wins. Shifting our spending to any degree is still a vote for social change and awareness. It grants dignified work, living wages, and allows artisans to be taught a skill and become empowered. I always want this space to be one of positivity. One where we can come as we are without condemnation or guilt. I never want us to be so focused on how far we have to go to be too discouraged to see how far we’ve come. So regardless where you are in this fair trade journey, I’m glad we’re here together. Making the small steps. Shifting, regardless of the size of the shift.
Opalhouse African Artisan made collection:
Alright, so now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get to the fun part! The African artisan collection from Opalhouse! I was absolutely delighted to stumble upon this collection as I was shopping for a basket wall I am putting together. I saw the fair trade tag on this handwoven raffia bowl in the Target aisle, and snagged it right up! Opalhouse partnered with All Across Africa and Wonki Ware (two established fair trade companies) to create this amazing artisan made line. (You can learn more about each company by clicking on their links!) Shop the whole Opalhouse Fair Trade Collection here.
