Opening Our Eyes and Seeing Everyday Miracles…
This is my kids’ first look at the ocean. We had traveled all day and changed in the backseat of a rental van. They sprinted out and screamed and chased waves for hours. And then they got still for a moment and saw their first ocean sunset. It was pretty magical.
How many times do I brush over the beauty and the magic of the things I experience? How many times do I get caught up in the busy or the waiting that I forget to chase the waves and stand in awe?
And I ask this not to place that unrealistic pressure of enjoying and noticing every little thing…because I think that places a pressure for perfect that is unattainable. But I say it to remind ourselves that there is beauty and magic in every season if we just look up to really see it.

There is beauty in the sunrise. Wonder in the way a child learns something new each day. Magic in a marriage lasting and holding strong over the years. Miracles in the way the each individual cell in our bodies works together in intricate and complex ways beyond my comprehension.

My point is, there are miracles all around if we just open our eyes to see them. But so often I brush on by them oblivious. Life is just so busy. Even when we intentionally take it slow, there are everyday tasks that must get done. Pay the bills. Feed the baby. Do the laundry. Get the groceries. Finish the homework. Get the oil changed. Make the dinner. There are so many tasks that can bog us down. That can cloud our vision. And if we’re not careful, we’re just simply staying afloat instead of really seeing the glorious ocean we’re swimming in.
I want to see Miracles.
I want to see the ocean. I want to see miracles. Big and small. I want to live with gratitude and intention, but also allow myself the grace to miss a few things along the way. Because that’s ok, too. Just so long as I don’t miss it all. Just so long as I do more experiencing and less surviving.
I want that for you, too. What keeps you from seeing the beautiful gifts right in front of you? Do you ever get so busy doing that you forget to really see and marvel? What things do you do to help you recognize the beauty around you? I’d love to know.

Thank you, Deb! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Hey, mama! I love this! I’m a first time mom, so legit I get awestruck over a new piece of hair springing up out of my daughters head! LOL, but this is so true! The weeknight routine numbs us to some of the most beautiful moments we will ever experience. It’s not that we ignore these experiences, but we don’t recognize how deeply beautiful and profound those little moments add up to be! Good job, mama! ❤️
Hey, Stevie! I love the way you said that. You are so right!! It really can numb us, but they are profound. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Love it! It is SO easy to get busy and not slow down — but I like how you frame it to enjoy it, but not be pressured by it! Plus that picture of your kids at sunset is 10/10 amazing. Great article, friend!
Thank you so much!! So easy to get busy!! iPhone picture!! Just snapped it on a whim!
