How to Protect & Treat Your Family’s Hair from the Pool
Let’s talk pool hair, and more importantly, how to protect and treat your family’s hair from the pool. I am a pool mom through and through. We spend our summer vacation out back by the pool. All day. Everyday. And on the days we get crazy and vary our routine, you can typically find us at a friend’s house in the pool! However, because we’re serious pool people, there was also a learning curve to figure out just how to keep our hair healthy and protected. I have four children. All blonde. All completely bleached out from the summer sun, so keeping them blonde and not green is the top priority. But both the pool and products tend to cause dryness and tangles, so moisturizing and keeping hair healthy is also key.
The Products to treat Pool Hair:
As a side, I have recently been trying to be more mindful of just what we’re putting on our bodies. Consequently, my first choice is always products without harmful chemicals, that being said, I have found that a little more difficult in pool hair maintenance with my towheads. So I do the best I can to choose safe products when available, and let the rest go. Because GRACE. And parenting and life is hard enough as it is without placing unrealistic expectations and guilt on ourselves. (I will note when a product is free from harmful chemicals below for reference.)
Keeping Green Away
This product is preventative and to be put on the hair before entering the pool. It prevents the hair from absorbing as much chlorine.
Rescue and Renew Detox Body Wash (Free from harmful chemicals)

Perfect for darker hair, redheads, and the occasional swimmer. This is my go to after a swim. It prevents chlorine damage and green hair for anyone who does not swim all day, everyday AND/OR does not have bleach blonde hair. While it’s my go to, it’s not my kids’ in the summer. For their excessive swimming and bleach blonde hair, I have only found the following stronger product to be able to keep their hair from going green.
Malibu Swimmers Wellness Shampoo.
This is a must for blondes who swim constantly. Use as a preventative to keep green at bay after swimming.
Malibu Swimmers Wellness Remedy.
If at any time, you find hair to be taking on a green tint, these packets are your miracle workers. Use one treatment to eliminate green immediately.
Moisturizing and Conditioning
True Hair Daily Leave in Conditioner. (Free from harmful chemicals)

Use daily. This is the best treatment for dry, tangled hair. Put in hair after washing to protect and pool treat damage. This has completely replaced detangler in our house. I swear by it.
Hair Revitalizing Mask. (Free from harmful chemicals)

Use as needed when hair begins to feel especially dry or damaged. While it is part of a color revival line, it works to repair all damage. So I use it on the kids, too.
Welp, there you have it! My best tools to help protect and treat our family’s hair from the pool. Hope these help! Anything I didn’t mention that has worked for you?
